World Music & Drumming Workshops

DrumConnection offers the finest in West African music workshops in the area. Our teachers and professors are carefully selected for you, our students, so that you will always learn the traditional rhythms, dances and songs of Africa. Though we specialize in the music of Guinea and Mali, we also have classes in the music of Senegal, Ivory Coast and Ghana.

One cannot have the drumming without the dance so we often combine the two. If you are taking a DrumConnection class or not, you should be attending our workshops often as they will open your eyes to different styles. There is no one way to play the djembe. There is no one teacher to teach you unless you choose that path. We feel that studying with a number of true artists of the drumming craft, you will come into your own style and really grow as a drummer!

Dunun Drumming Workshop with Alan Tauber

Friday, TBA 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM (EDT)

Have a fantastic time learning how and why to play these magical drums of the Malinké; the Dunun, Sangban and Kenkeni as they are often called in many villages.

Using sticks in the right and left hands, we play the bells and bass drum and create the melodies that make up the songs of the Malinké. There is nothing more beautiful than to be a part of playing this music.
