For beginners to professional djembe players. All welcome! It’s FUN!

In a rare appearance, Alan Tauber, djembefola  and master teacher shares his experience of growing his sound on the djembe with the hand to hand assistance from his masters. Alan will go over all of the technique on the djembe we can pack into 2 hours. You will get hands-on playing time and suggestions will be made for all students. You will leave playing so much better than you came. For ALL drummers and beginners too. All welcome! It’s FUN!

A few times a year we break out the Krins and show people the wooden log instrument that contains the tone, slap and timing strokes that we now play on the djembe. Many of the traditional rhythms that we play on the djembe originated on the Krin! The Krin is played with 2 thin sticks in a seated position, usually on the ground. The Koukou Dance is a traditional dance from Guinea.


Fanta is an engaging spirit from Guinea who will be teaching the Kassa Dance. She will teach the Kassa as danced in the traditional way. Live drumming as well as singing the rhythms will take place. Kassa as taught by Fanta can be a  good dance to learn as it has many elements of other work rhythms.

Learn the secrets of the melodies of the dunun of the Malinké.

All welcome! It’s FUN! All levels - you will learn a LOT!


Come learn how to play these magical drums of the Malinké. Using sticks in the right and left hand we play the bell and the bass drum and create the melodies that make up the songs of the Malinké. There is nothing more beautiful to be apart of recreating this music.

Alan will begin with the basics and show you how to gradually expand your soloing technique... even if this is your first time. Using basic djembe technique and solo phrases we will learn how the masters do it and what they hear. Soloing to the dunun is a real art and we will get a big peek into all of it.

Directions: We are sorry that we are hard to find! Though there are many doors in which to enter the school, the ONLY one that will bring you to The DrumRoom (which is under the gym) is at the very end of the school. Here’s how to get there:


Take Mass Ave to East Arlington. That is 1/2 mile East of Arlington Center (toward Cambridge). Take a TURN at the BP Gas Station onto Tufts Street. Use a GPS to find 50 Tufts Street. Or walk down Tufts Street till you see the house numbers 49 then 51 (on your right) and the school on your left will end! Take a Left and a Left into the school where it will say DRUMCONNECTION DRUMROOM. This is under the gym.


You may park on Tufts Street, the side street Raleigh Street or in the main parking lot before the school.
