The Banks of the River Charles

Allston-Brighton Area

Join us as we hold most Summer semester DRUMMING CLASSES on the Banks of The River Charles. Being outside for class and drumming in the evening sun is wonderful. People treat us like part of the local color, they smile, clap, sometimes they dance, but mostly they just leave us to our class.

Here's what you need to know:

You need a folding chair. If you want to be comfortable DON’T use a camping stool. Get a traditional metal folding chair, a full-height card table type folding chair is what you want. Padded ones are best and are available and inexpensive at Costco, Staples, Target, Kmart, Bed/Bath (or borrow one from work or school). Then keep the chair in your car for the Summer! If you really can't get one, let me know.

It's even more important this time of year to remember to bring WATER. You will also want a jacket - I put one in the trunk of my car along with my chair. Insect repellent is good. I would wear long pants and long sleeve shirt at this time of year. A hat can be good thing to have.

And, don't forget your drum! The drum rentals if you have asked for one, will be there at the first class for you.

On the day of class, here's how it works:

#1 Call the TDC WeatherLine at 781.648.0066 after 5:00PM on the day of class to see if we're on (only bad weather will stop us!)

#2 Or, Go to our TDC homepage http://www.drumconnection.com and look for the pink box on the right on the homepage - it will also tell if class is on.

#3 If all else fails, you can call me on my cell at: 617-686-6080.

Directions: We will be meeting in the park on Soldier's Field Road, PARKING LOT #1 or #4, specifically the large parking lot for the Publick Theater #4 ,which is across from the Days Inn, near WBZ-TV and the State Police Building. Huge parking lot...can’t miss it! Parking is NOT a problem. There is a traffic light where you turn into the parking lot, if you are coming from Newton Corner past the IHOP and other shopping - there's a left turn lane with a light and a sign that says "Publick Theater".

Or the first lot coming from Arlington/Cambridge on your Right Lot #1 That is a smaller lot but the location is a little nicer.

If you are coming from Boston/Cambridge, it's a right turn (no traffic light) - again look for the Publick Theater signs. The signs will lead you to a large parking lot across from the Days Inn, and we will be waiting for you over by the river at the far end of the parking lot near the playground. Here's a link to a great Google map with the little pointer right where we're going:

1228 Soldiers Field Rd,

Parking Lot #4

Brighton, MA 02135

If you get lost, call me!

And don't forget the most important thing: Call our DrumConnection WeatherLine at 781.648.0066 after 5:00 PM on the night of class to see whether or not class is being held. There will be a message on the voicemail there with status for the class. Rain may make us postpone a class by a week.

This will all be routine soon. We want to minimize the stress and yet get you to experience river drumming! It will be worth it.
